God’s Hopes and Disappointments

After reflecting on Isaiah 1 and Revelation 18, I received this word from God on January 1, 2024:

“Alas, where will you be, O great nation, O Babylon, seductress of the world? Where will you be when the world’s goods no longer come ashore?

You could have been independent. I gave you everything you needed to take care of your people. But your wanton appetite for luxury sent you around the world lurking and stealing and gathering more and more. You could have been a city on a hill, a beacon of light around the world.

But no, your pride and greed ruined you. Your pharmakeia bewitched the people here and abroad. You bragged that you had all the answers to the world’s health problems. Then you went about poisoning the world with your great knowledge.

You think that I didn’t notice or care. You are wrong and this is one more reason I am shaking this nation, this system.

I am breaking the shipping lanes and the great vessels used to supply the luxuries to this greedy people.”

While writing this, I sense the importance of sharing Isaiah 1: 16 & 17, which says, “Wash yourselves and be clean! Get your sins out of my sight. Give up your evil ways. Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans, Fight for the rights of widows.”

I want to soften the blow, but I’ve been warned very clearly that I need to share exactly what was given to me without trying to make it more palatable. The days are serious, the times so dire. Let us pause and take it to heart.

Wickies trimmed wicks on oil lamps in lighthouses enabling light to bore through darkness. This task, although mundane, saved lives. I think of myself as a LightKeeper, trimming, so God's light shines through me. Whether rough seas or smooth sailing, I hope my beckoning beacon shines through darkness so others safely beachhead.
